ElephantNose Fish – Gnathonemus petersii

Description

Another one of our favorite electric fish, The elephantnose fish is a peaceful and shy South American fish that loves to hang out in caves or under driftwood and plants.
Like most morymids, they can become quite aggressive if kept with other electric fish/knifefish and thus are best kept as the sole knifefish/morymid or any other electric fish in an aquarium. This fish can grow over 9″ if given enough space and proper care, and has been known to live upwards of 10 years so a suitable aquarium of 75-90 gallons or more is preferred.
It can be kept with most peaceful fish, as it is peaceful to other species.
They should be fed small worms, live, frozen or dried and have been known to accept flakes and other scraps too.
