Description

The philodendron Imperial Red is a hybrid plant that can be small and placed on a table or desk when young, but grows into an impressive floor plant as it matures. It is easy to care for and can adapt to various conditions as long as it is kept warm.

There are two main types of philodendron plants: climbers and self-headers. Climbers, like the heart-leaf philodendron, hang down without support and produce aerial roots to cling to surfaces. Self-headers, like the Imperial Red, are larger with big leaves and a single stem that keeps the plant upright. The Imperial Red has glossy, wide, green and red oval-shaped leaves that grow close together.

To care for the Imperial Red, recreate a tropical environment with warm temperatures, bright shade, consistent moisture, and humidity. Keep in mind that the plant is toxic to pets. It thrives in ambient room temperatures of 65-80°F (18-27°C), prefers consistent moisture without soggy soil, and needs a loose and well-draining potting mix. Providing bright shade, morning sunlight, and humidity above 50% is beneficial for its growth.
